Mad River "Bug Basics" Fly Tying Class

Ever wonder what's in your guide's fly box? This class takes a look at three patterns we rely on year-round when fishing the Mad River: the Soft Hackle, the Trophy Nymph, and the Guide's Choice Hare's Ear. There's a reason these patterns have earned a permanent place in our boxes, they flat-out catch fish. They're also great patterns for trout fishing anywhere east of the Mississippi.

During this class, Pat Kelly will break down the materials, proportions, and tying techniques behind these time-tested flies, plus bonus information on what each pattern imitates, when to fish it, and why it works so well. Expect plenty of hands-on attention and guidance, including troubleshooting the common mistakes tyers make when learning these patterns.

By the end of class you'll walk away with three confidence patterns that catch fish year-round and a working understanding of why they deserve a spot in your fly box.

Basic tools and a vise are required. Materials will be provided.
