Brown Trout (Salmo Trutta) Mad River Float Trips

Hunting large, predatory Brown Trout with modern streamer tactics is the most exciting way to target this fish in Ohio. Knowing when to go matters just as much as the techniques and flies you'll use. Periods of high water are excellent windows, as well as overcast and rainy days. This game can be played year round, it just depends on when you get dealt the right hand and how you play it. That said, certain seasons tend to offer more consistent high water and favorable weather patterns, giving you the best odds.

Gear is provided on all guide trips. If you want to bring your own gear, we can discuss and go over what you have and if it is suitable for what we will be doing. Having gear rigged up the right way is critical to giving you the best chance for success and having an enjoyable time on the water.

Seasons

Preferred Seasons: October - April

As stated above the conditions can present themselves anytime of the year. Consistently over the years I have found late February, March and April to be best. You can have some spectacular fishing in the higher water during summer and fall. It just doesn’t line up very often. If you are someone that can go with short notice or want to be put on the list for when the window opens up to target those large predatory Browns, email me and we can discuss this trip further.

If you have any questions or would like to talk about which trip is right for you, give me a call or shoot me an email. I’m always happy to help.
