Musky Guide Trip
Famously known as the fish of 10,000 casts, Musky will test you mentally and physically as an angler like no other fish can. Catching this elusive apex predator is on many a bucket list and for good reason. Having the opportunity to catch the baddest freshwater predator in North America will leave you with a memory that will last a lifetime. Just the “follow” alone is enough to bring most anglers to their knees as they try to keep it together while executing the famous “Figure 8” with a Musky just inches from your rod tip! With almost 20 years of experience targeting these fish with a fly rod, let me help elevate your skills. Whether it’s casting, fly animation, reading water or the famous boatside “Figure 8” you will leave the water a better angler.

Musky Guide Trip
Musky (Esox Masquinongy Ohioensis) Float Trips
Native to Ohio, the Musky or the fish of 10,000 casts as so often called, simply put, one of the most thrilling and challenging fish to target with a fly rod in the country! For those that want a challenge that is both physical, mental and will test everything you have, this trip is for you. Maybe you feel you want to try and accomplish one of the more difficult tasks in all of fly fishing or if the idea of slamming your head against a wall repeatedly sounds like your idea of fun, then let's go. I am more than happy to provide that wall!!
As the first fly fishing guide for Musky in Ohio, I’ve been targeting Musky with a fly rod for almost 20 years and have developed a strong love/hate relationship with them. One of the best words I can think of to describe this fish is dishonest. Musky do not care how good you think you are, how many places you’ve traveled, or how well tied your fly is. They do not care how perfect your cast was or how good the conditions are, they simply don't care about any of it. You can do everything right, and that still won’t be good enough. Then when you least expect it or after a cast that you think sucks….WHAM!! This is probably why I can’t seem to shake my deep infatuation and unhealthy obsession I have with this fish, especially within its native range. Part of the intrigue is that it's both a physical and mental marathon. You have to keep it together all day long, never knowing when an opportunity will show itself. When it does, you need to have your sh*t together and do everything right to have a chance at hooking and landing one of these incredible animals. No matter how much you learn or think you know, the Musky are always willing to serve up a warm helping of humble pie.
If you are interested in pursuing Musky on the fly for the first time, please consider booking a casting lesson. Here I can prep you on how to cast and manage heavier gear. Other anglers have found it to be incredibly helpful to book a Pike trip first. This serves as a great stepping stone and building block to east your way into the Ultra Marathon of fly fishing.
Gear is provided on all guide trips. If you want to bring your own gear, we can discuss and go over what you have and if it is suitable for what we will be doing. Having gear rigged up the right way is critical to giving you the best chance for success and having an enjoyable time on the water.
